The Pink Dollar Pitch

The Pink Dollar Pitch

By Julia Stretch

The promising power of the pink dollar has seen many brands go to great lengths turning their logos rainbow, popping in a lovely shot of a clean-cut gay couple holding hands into their ads, or getting their branded float to the front of the Mardi Gras parade.

Fabulous!
Innovative!
Subversive!

But wait… what if the product you’re flogging doesn’t have any discernible link to the rainbow crowd?

Think again I say! Opportunities abound for advertisers of many unassuming products and services that while innocuous in the hands of the heterosexuals, take on an exciting secret life amongst Australia’s queers (not unlike me before I came out).

Here I present my humble pitch for LGBTQI+ advertising opportunities that I quite frankly can’t believe haven’t already been taken advantage of.
